Beagle

The beagle dog is a type of hound like the foxhound, however, a lot smaller.

It is primarily a scent hound with an incredible sense of smell and exceptional tracking abilities.

How much does a beagle weigh?

The average weight of a male beagle is 22 to 24 pounds (10 to 11 kg).

Females weigh approximately 19 to 22 pounds (9 to 10 kg).

Beagles are more than 2,500 years old and are the fourth most popular dog in the United States.

Their sense of smell is incredible. They have more than 200 million scent receptors in their nose. Compare that to humans which have around 5 million.

They are also great at following a trail. This is why they are used throughout the world by law enforcement and various other agencies to detect contraband.

They also make excellent pets as they love to have companionship and are very active. That said, they are also known for being stubborn and sometimes single-minded.

Although they love to ramble outside and go for walks, beagles are indoor dogs for the most part.

In French beagle means loudmouth as they are known for being very vocal.

~ Fun Fact ~
General Richard Rowett is believed to be the first person to bring beagles from the UK to North America in the 19th century.
