Shoes are a surprisingly more recent invention than you might think.
While sandals were worn during bible times, the shoe as we know it today wasn’t around until the 1800’s.
The weight of shoes is something that will vary by size and type.
Here’s a look at their average shoe weight.
Women’s shoes weigh between 2 to 2.5 pounds (908 to 1134 grams) on average.
Men’s shoes weigh about 2.5 to 3 pounds (1134 to 1361 grams).
Children’s shoes are lighter and weigh between 1 to 1.5 pounds (454 to 680 grams).
Boots are heavier of course. Small boots weigh around 3 to 4 pounds or 1361 to 1815 grams.
Larger boots weigh approximately 4 to 6 pounds (1815 to 2722 grams).
In the United States the most popular shoe size for women is 8.5 and for men it is 10.5. Thirty years ago these numbers were a full size less.
Around 85% of people underestimate their shoe size by a factor of at least half a size.
As people get older their feet flatten out and this can increase the length and width of their feet, so they need a larger shoe size.
Sneakers got their name because their rubber soles make them easy to “sneak around” in.
Men were wearing heels many years before women. In the old days high heels represented a higher social standing in the community.

On average women in the United States own 19 pairs of shoes. 15% of women own more than 30 pairs of shoes.

In 1818 left and right shoes were invented. Before this both shoes were the same shape and size and must have been uncomfortable.
