First of all, different types of mulch materials weigh different amounts.

Secondly, the weight of any bag of mulch will depend on how wet or dry it is.  Naturally, wet mulch can be twice as heavy than dry mulch.

It’s estimated that 2.5 cubic feet bag of straw mulch weighs around 50 pounds (22.67 kg).

Other bag sizes are available. Their weight depends on the mulch material and its moisture content.

What are the benefits of utilizing mulch?

Mulch prevents the loss and erosion of soil. It reduces the likelihood of weeds growing.

It also ensures that soil stays moist and is protected from the sun.

Finally, it also adds valuable nutrients to soil which leads to the healthy growth of plants and vegetables.

Many different types of materials can be used to make mulch, such as:

  • Cocoa shell
  • straw
  • compost
  • shredded hardwood
  • stone
  • rubber
  • grass clippings
  • chopped leaves
  • pine straw

How Do You Apply Mulch?

~ Fun Fact ~
The old saying ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ is particularly true when it comes to mulch. All kinds of waste products, including old newspapers can be shredded down and used as valuable mulch in outdoor areas. So, the next time you decide to get rid of your local or national newspaper, think again because it has more uses than you think!
