The name banana originates in Africa and is an Arabic word for “finger”.

Although many people believe bananas grow on trees it is actually a type of high herb and not a tree.

There are more than 1000 varieties of banana with the most popular being the Cavendish banana.

A single stem of bananas is called a hand which is about 10-20 bananas. Once the hand is split it is then known as a cluster which will be 3-8 bananas.

There are many things that bananas are used for. You can make banana beer, banana muffins, banana pancakes, and banana bread.
