If you have not been to the gym recently, a barbell is a piece of equipment used mostly for bodybuilding and powerlifting.
But how much does a barbell weigh?
There are two types of bar, an Olympic bar which is used mainly for competition which can hold more weight.
The average weight will be around 45 pounds (20 kg).
Then there is a standard bar. This title does not mean the bar is a standard weight, it just differentiates it from the Olympic bar.
The average weight is 55 pounds (25 kg).
A barbell consists of a long metal bar with a weight attached at each end. The bar will come in different lengths and weights can be added to at each end.
The most common of the bars especially among beginners is the standard bar.
A dumbbell is different to a barbell in that it is designed for one-handed use.
A barbell is one of the simplest pieces of exercises equipment with many people in different countries improvising with a simple metal bar with bags of sand of each end.
