The bell pepper, which is a relative of the chili pepper, is also known as a capsicum or a sweet pepper.

A bell pepper can come in many different colors depending on the cultivar including red, white, green, purple, orange and yellow. They are native to South and Central America.

The average bell pepper will weigh 4 to 5 ounces (113 to 142 grams).

It measures 4 – 6 inches and will typically contain around 30 – 46 calories.

A single Rouge Royal can weigh up to nearly 1 pound (453 grams). However, they are not widely available.

Capsaicin, which produces the hot spice commonly found in other varieties of hot peppers, is less present in bell peppers. This is part of the reason why it is known as a sweet pepper.

These peppers have many health benefits; they are rich in nutrients, full of antioxidants and contain less than a gram of fat.

Bell peppers can come in different forms other than fresh. You can find them dried and even powdered in which case it then becomes paprika.

An average bell pepper will be made of around 92% water.

Almost all red peppers started as green peppers which were left to ripen longer. Red peppers will be slightly sweeter than green.
