The North American black bear is one of the most common species of bear in the United States.

It is also one of the smallest of the 3 species in North America.

How much do black bears weigh?

The average weight of an adult male black bear is 150 to 350 pounds (68 to 158 kg).

Some males have been known to weigh up to 500 to 600 pounds (227 to 272 kg).

A female will weigh on average 125 pounds (57 kg).

Despite its name, black bears come in many different colors including grey, brown, silver-blue, and rarely in white.

The natural habitat of the black bear includes North America, Central America, Mexico, and Canada and they usually live in dense forest areas, mountains, and swamps.

Black bears are omnivores and like to eat fruits, grass, roots, fish, carrion, and plants.

However, they can also acquire a taste for human food which is why you might see a black bear hanging around trash cans.

They will typically live up to 20-25 years in the wild and like to spend most of their time alone.

Currently, there are around 800,000 black bears in the wild today.

Black bears are excellent tree climbers due to their huge claws and they will often quickly scale trees to get away from predators.

The female black bear can give birth to around 6 six cubs every second year. The female will look after them until they are around 18 months old.
