When it comes to cars, the more things change, the more they stay the same. That perfectly fits the mold when it comes to weight.
How much does a car weigh today compared to years ago? How much less?
The average car weighs right around 2,900 pounds (1,315 kg).
A Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 4-dr sedan with a V-8 weighed approximately 3,335 pounds (1,512 kg) in 1969.
Fifty years later, a 2019 Chevy Malibu weighs around 3,200 pounds (1,451 kg).
According to USA Today, the average weight of a mid-size car is 3,497 pounds (1,586 kg). A large car averages 4,366 pounds (1,980 kg).
Move up to a big SUV and the average bumps up to 5,411 pounds (2,454 kg).
How do you find out how much your car weighs?
The quickest way to find the weight of your car is to look on the inside of the driver’s door.
You’ll find a sticker or placard that will list the curb weight of the vehicle.
If that doesn’t work, you can usually find it in your owner’s manual. There should be a page that lists out the specs for your car.
Another way is to simply look online. Do a search for the year and make/model of your car and it should bring up its weight.
~ Fun Fact ~
