Not only are these dogs tall, they are heavy.

A Great Dane puppy is tiny when it’s born, often weighing as little as 1 to 2 pounds. However, these young dogs don’t stay small for very long.

Despite their huge and intimidating size, today’s Great Danes are playful, friendly, gentle giants and make the perfect pets so long as a home is big enough to accommodate them!

This is one of the many reasons why they are the 14th most popular dog breed, according to the AKC.

They may not be the fastest dogs on the planet, but Great Danes still manage to cover a lot ground very quickly, reaching speeds of up to 30 mph (48 kph).

They are short-haired dogs and are mainly fawn, harlequin, black, brindle, blue, or mantle in color.

Unfortunately, many of these canines suffer from a range of different health conditions and have a shorter lifespan (7 to 10 years) than smaller breeds.

What Height Is A Great Dane?

As well as being a heavy dog, the Great Dane is also one of the tallest dog breeds.

Males measure between 30 to 34 inches (76 to 86 cm) in height, while females are slightly shorter, measuring 28 to 32 inches (71 to 81 cm).

~ Fun Fact ~
In 2012, a Great Dane called Zeus was crowned the world’s tallest dog. He measured 3 feet 8 inches in height and weighed 155 pounds. What was even more impressive was the fact that he measured 7 feet 5 inches when he stood on his hind legs. That’s taller than most every NBA player!
