How Much Does A Pair Of Jeans Weigh?

Surely everyone owns at least one pair of jeans. With a huge number of different styles and cuts available, they have been a fashion staple for decades.

So what is the weight of a pair of jeans?

Most jeans will weigh between 12 and 16 ounces (0.34 to 0.45 kg).

Lightweight jeans typically weigh around 12 ounces, while heavyweight jeans can weigh more than 16 ounces.

Blue jeans remain the most popular style, but they are actually available in a wide range of colors, textures and cuts.

Some of the most popular styles include skinny jeans, slim jeans, straight cut jeans, bootcut jeans and who can forget… bell-bottom jeans. The latter were especially popular during the late 60s and early 70s.

Denim itself gets its name from the French city Nimes. ‘De Nimes’ simply means ‘from Nimes.’

Did you know that denim jeans only became known as ‘jeans’ in the 1950s? Before that, they were usually called ‘overalls.’

Today, around 7.5 billion feet of denim fabric is produced each year, and over 450 million pairs of jeans are sold in America alone. That’s a lot of jeans!

Considering these figures, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the average American now owns 7 pairs of jeans.

~ Fun Fact ~
The oldest pair of Levi’s were produced in 1879. Originally sold using the marketing slogan “for men who toil,” they are now kept in a fire-proof safe in the Levi’s archive.
