Ostriches are the largest, tallest and heaviest birds in the world. Although an ostrich is a bird they are completely flightless.

How much does an ostrich weigh?

A male ostrich weighs between 250 to 350 pounds (113 to 158 kg).

Female ostriches weigh around 220 to 300 pounds (100 to 136 kg).

How much does a baby ostrich weigh?

They are tiny when born and weigh just 2 to 3 pounds (0.90 to 1.36 kg).

However, they don’t stay small for long. By the time they reach 6 months of age they will weigh close to 150 pounds!

An ostrich can run extremely fast, reaching speeds of up to 40 miles an hour while sometimes being able to take strides of up to 16 feet.

An ostrich kick can be very powerful and has enough force to kill a human and even a lion.

The average ostrich can grow up to 9 feet and lives 40-50 years. They have been around for the last 40-50 million years.

An ostrich has only 2 toes on its foot. All other birds will have at least 3 or 4.

The main place to find wild ostriches will be among the hot and dry plains of Africa, although they originated in Asia.

They can eat plants, vegetables and sometimes meat which will include mammals and reptiles.
