Weight Of Earth

Earth

Wondering exactly how much does the Earth weigh?

While it is impossible to get an exact weight, the Earth weighs approximately 15,400,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 pounds.

That’s an astronomical number that is too big to even wrap your head around!

Although you can’t put it on a set of scales, scientists are able to figure out Earth’s weight by using the laws of gravity along with a bit of math.

How Much Does Earth Weigh In Tons?

If you turn the number of pounds into tons, you get roughly 7,700,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons.

Again, it’s more than our human brain can fathom.

~ Fun Fact ~
The earth actually gains and loses weight every year. It gains 44,000 tons of dust every year that is attracted by gravity and becomes part of our planet. At the same time however, it loses over 105,000 tons of hydrogen and helium each year.

This works out to a loss of around 61,000 tons every year. But I wouldn’t fear that the earth will one day vanish. These numbers work out to roughly 0.000000000000001% less mass every year.
